Bonnabel Civic Assn. meeting of February 9 held at American Legion Post 175 was a huge success. Topic of the meeting was
"PARISH HURRICANE AND FLOOD PROTECTION." Attendance exceeded our expectations and we received numerous compliments concerning the meeting. It was said to be one of the largest groups gathered for a hurricane hearing. All of our members, whether attending or not, should be proud.
Our Councilwoman Jennifer Sneed was the main speaker with Councilman John Young and Tom Capella also present. Sneed had numerous department directors and heads, as well as Parish Attorney Tom Wilkinson and President Aaron Broussard’s Executive Assistant attending as well, who were available to answer any questions that may have arisen concerning the parish. Also attending was representatives of the US Army Corps of Engineers.
The meeting was attended by more than 300 interested citizens that had many questions to be answered by the governmental representatives present.
A presentation was made by the Corps of preparations being made for the upcoming hurricane season regarding the 17th canal and other flood protection projects in the Parish. Questions presented to both Corps and Parish personnel were answered to the satisfaction of most of those attending.
Space does not allowed a detailed description of the numerous discussions made but it is unfortunate there were those that could not attend.
